The Junior Kindergarten Program provides a
learning experience for children who are age-eligible, but not
quite ready for kindergarten due to maturation or who miss the
age cut-off date to start school. The program is offered through
Sacred Heart
Preschool, the co-ed preschool on the Ursuline Campus;
however, it is a collaborative effort between the preschool and
Sacred Heart Model School. Developed by the Sacred Heart Model
School principal, Sacred Heart Preschool director, Sacred Heart
Model School kindergarten teachers, and Sacred Heart Preschool
junior kindergarten teacher, the curriculum will prepare your child
for a developmentally appropriate and successful transition into
the Model School in a seamless manner.
The junior kindergarten curriculum will meet the individual
needs of your child academically, socially and emotionally.
Taught in small groups, the theme-based units of learning
include the following: Language arts (alphabet knowledge,
book knowledge, sound awareness, and print awareness);
Montessori Math, Handwriting without Tears (handwriting
fluency); Science; Multi-cultural Social Studies; Technology;
and, Enrichment (Spanish, Art, Music/Movement).
