Arts Exploration
In keeping with the Ursuline Sisters’ holistic education
model, Sacred Heart Model School places great emphasis on the
importance of art in education.
The performing arts are the physical and practical expression
of the beauty of the human spirit. SHMS believes that everyone
has the capacity to make art. Performing arts provide a venue
in which students learn in a most practical way how to work with
others, how to respect their talent and uniqueness, how to enjoy
each others’ accomplishments and how to help each other
excel. Studies show that students of the arts outperform their
non-arts peers academically with the help of enhanced creative
and critical problem-solving skills and self-discipline.
In addition to experiencing our exceptional art and music curriculum,
Sacred Heart Model School students have the unique opportunity
to further explore the arts by attending Sacred Heart School
for the Arts (SHSA), a member of Sacred Heart Schools located
on the Ursuline Campus. In partnership with SHSA, our Arts Exploration
Program currently enables Model School students to take a range
of performing arts classes as part of their school-day curriculum.
Classes include: violin, keyboard, guitar, drama, dance,
choir, percussion, harp, ballet, handbells and fairytale theater.
After school, many of our students continue their arts exploration
by enrolling in drama, music, dance and visual art classes at
Sacred Heart School for the Arts. Many of the classes are conveniently
scheduled to begin right after school and to end right around
the time mom or dad will be heading home from work.
