Nineteen students ages 11 to 13 from 7 middle schools will perform in the Sacred Heart School for the Arts production of Once on This Island Junior on March 17 and 18 at 10 a.m., March 19 at 7:30 p.m. and March 20 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All shows will be in the Ursuline Arts Center, bldg. 5, on the Ursuline Campus at 3105 Lexington Rd. Tickets for the March 17 and 18 morning performances are $4. Tickets for the March 19 and 20 performances are $5 for students/senior citizens and $8 for adults. Set in the Caribbean, this colorful, imaginative musical tells the story of Ti Mourne, a poor peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a boy from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Mourne on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice and death.
The production is directed by Mary Holt. Assistant director is Kristi Papailler.
At each performance, Sacred Heart School for the Arts will be accepting donations for Edge Outreach, a Louisville-based non-profit group dedicated to providing clean, safe water in developing countries. All funds raised will be donated to the Edge Outreach Haiti relief efforts to provide clean water for children and families.
