Faith and Service
Sacred Heart’s commitment to Catholic, Christian values reaches far beyond
the classroom. The Ursuline Core Values of Community, Reverence, Service, and
Leadership are lived out daily by the faculty, staff, and students at Sacred
Heart.
Sacred Heart does not require a student to be Catholic; nearly
20 percent of the student body is not Catholic. All students,
regardless of religious beliefs, are invited to participate in
class discussions, service and retreat programs, and spiritual
development at SHA. All students attend school-wide liturgical
celebrations.
Four-year Retreat Program
Retreats strengthen a student’s relationship with God and
others. Freshmen go on a one-day retreat. Sophomores and juniors
have the option of a one-day or an overnight retreat. The Christian
Awakening four-day, three-night retreat is offered to seniors.
Service Learning Program
As part of its mission and core values, Sacred Heart students
are called to serve others. Students provide more than 25,000
hours of service to the Louisville community each year through
unique ministry opportunities on the Ursuline Campus and through
local agencies.
Prayer/Liturgical Celebrations
As a Catholic school, Sacred Heart Academy encourages the spiritual
formation of the student. The entire school gathers regularly
during the year for Mass and prayer services. Parents are always
welcome to attend these events and should check the monthly
calendar for dates and times.
The Sacred Heart community begins each day with prayer. Students
are encouraged to pray for others and for special intentions.
They are reminded at the end of each school week to attend Mass
or the service of their faith tradition on the weekend. The Sacrament
of Reconciliation is offered monthly to those students who wish
to participate.
